Medication Side Effect Guidelines

If you are having life-threatening side effects, please go to the emergency room right away.

negative side effects

Definition

  • When properly taken with the proper dosing, the unintended effects of a medication are mild to severe.

Protocol

  • If the negative side effect is present but not defined as adverse or life-threatening, notify Sonatix Wellness via phone, text, or email. (If adverse or life-threatening, see those sections.)
  • Please utilize the My Medication Questionnaire when reporting the negative side effect.

adverse side effects

Definition

  • Unintended side effects of a medication that are generally harmful and unexpected.

 

Protocol

  • Please call when experiencing an adverse reaction so we may get answers to clarifying questions immediately.
    • If you feel the adverse effects are life-threatening or unbearable, please feel free to go to your local emergency room.
  • If you are unsure if it is safe to discontinue the medication abruptly, please contact Sonatix Wellness ASAP, and our Secretary will be able to assist you.
  • If you call the office but we are unavailable, please leave a voicemail and/or text, and we will get back to you ASAP.
  • The Secretary will notify your Provider right away with the information you provided within the next 1-2 hours.
    • The Provider will be able to inform you via the Secretary of any necessary immediate action, such as stopping the medication.

life-threatening

Definition

  • A drug side effect is considered life-threatening when it has the potential to cause significant harm or even death.

 

Protocol

  • If you are having life-threatening side effects, please go to the emergency room right away. 
  • Please notify Sonatix Wellness once you are stable so the Secretary can notify your Provider. 
  • If your situation results in a hospital stay, please inform your Provider immediately. 
  • If you have any needs or questions or require documentation, please contact Sonatix Wellness. 
  • If your needs are not documentation-related, your Provider will contact you via the Secretary within 24 business hours.
